Ellen Bellerose has been an artist since the age of 14, and a resident of Hawaiʻi for almost 40 years. She has a profound love and respect for Hawaiʻi and her people. "As I began doing research for an artist rendering I was introduced to the history of Princess Ka’iulani and became enamored by her. It was her poignant and tragic story as well as her profound beauty that compelled me to draw her. After learning about her I began seeking out more and more inspiring subjects. I focused initially on the women of the Hawaiian monarchy; the attempt was to represent the quiet majesty, strength, dignity, and often the sorrow of these phenomenal women."
The wahine portraits featured in this 5-card set are Princess Victoria Ka’iulani, Queen Lydia Lili’uokalani, Queen Emma Rooke, Princess Ruth Keʻelikōlani, and Princess Bernice Pauahi Bishop.
